Celebrating CHILD Magazine's 6th Annual Best Children's Book Awards
On January 31, 2007, at a special awards presentation and book signing, Child magazine's editor in chief, Miriam Arond, presented the legendary Julie Andrews with Child's Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding contribution to children's literature. "How lucky we are that Julie Andrews committed herself-years ago-to children's literacy and, under the name Julie Andrews Edwards, has published 19 children's books," said Arond, as she presented the award to the acclaimed star of screen, stage, and page in front of a large crowd at Books of Wonder, a charming independent children's book store in Manhattan. "It's so flattering and thrilling to be here, accepting this award from such a prestigious and important magazine," said Andrews.
Following the awards presentation, Andrews and 15 winning authors and illustrators of Child's 2006 Best Children's Book Awards-including Rhea Perlman, Mo Willems, Rosemary Wells, and Robert Sabuda-signed books for fans young and old. The festivities continued into the early evening when the store closed at 6:30 p.m. for a private reception. The authors, illustrators, and friends of Child celebrated with cupcakes and champagne, the perfect combination for a perfectly lovely evening.
