The song, "Your Crowning Glory", was the first time Julie Andrews had sung in public or on screen since she had throat surgery in 1997. She reportedly nailed the song on the first take, and brought tears to the eyes of the crew present. The song was specifically written to match Julie's voice so she could do it, it was agreed between Julie and Garry Marshall that if she didn't like the final result the song would cut off from the movie. "It's a very sweet little song and it was very specially written to kind of cope with my voice," she explains. "It's pitched very low, and I actually talk it more than sing it. I don't want the audience to think that I am back singing because I'm not -- Alas." |

Julie Andrews loves fresh flowers, and convinced Garry Marshall to use only real flowers in the arrangements inside Renaldi Castle. During the filming, she was constantly adjusting the arrangements, removing dying blossoms, etc. The centerpiece of the kitchen table (in the scene where Nicholas tops his chocolate mousse) got switched from a large piece (as seen in the background) to the cluster of small flowers seen in the final cut - the original arrangement got in the way of the filming. |

Julie said about her character, Her Mage sty Queen Clarisse Renaldi of Genovia: "I have such fun with this character, because she's such a wacky, far out lady. She's practical, very down-to-earth, but slightly eccentric. She is a very good monarch in that she cares so much for her country and its people, but she's also slightly sneaky, and perhaps a bit naive and innocent in some ways." |
One of Mia's brush-off lines for Nicholas is, "It should take you exactly four seconds to cross from here to that door. I'll give you two." As Nicholas says, it's taken directly from Holly Golightly in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" . This is a tribute to Audrey Hepburn, who is Anne Hathaway's idol. |

"It was an incredible exposure and lesson, just speaking beautifully." |
Anne Hathaway said about Julie Andrews: "She's just fantastic, she's royalty, a lady with a capitol 'L. She knows how to make people laugh. When you're on a Julie Andrews set, she is the hostess, and she makes sure she knows everyone. She's completely gracious, and so witty and funny, and her great ideas always make a scene better." |
Garry Marshall said about Julie: ."Julie Andrews is a pleasure to work with. She's done thousands of movies and she is such a veteran professional." |
Julie said about the movie: "It's rare to find a movie that's enjoyable, entertaining and funny and also really compelling," concludes Julie Andrews. "This film has all of that, and also manages to kind of sneak in, through all of the humor, the importance of values such as decency and honor. It all comes through in the movie, but in the guise of having such a good time that you don't even realize you're getting the message till later." |
Julie said about Hector Elizondo and their "love affair" in the movie: First of all, he's lovely to work with and everybody from the first movie, people would stop me on the street and say, 'Were you an item, and will you get together in the next one? Is he going to be in it?' They love him and his character. So I think it was a foregone conclusion that we had to do something in this new movie." |
